How did I get here...?

You may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife...
And you may ask yourself, "Well... how did I get here...
And I must acknowledge that Anne Browning was a big part of that...
To explain, Jerry and I had formed a band at school, and from our earliest gigs Anne did what she could to help us, shuttling our equipment and bodies in her timber framed Morris traveller, cooking meals, having us to stay over, tolerating our laddish, adolescent frequently drunken behaviour. Behind the scenes she was also always on the lookout for an opportunity for us to work and perform. Didn’t she find the Saturday job in the art shop, sew us money pouches when we went inter railing, suggest the New Year’s Eve spot at the Victoria Stakes, for which I had to learn 3 sets worth of folk and country songs, leading to us forming North London’s popular pub act Brahms and Liszt... We continued for a couple of years picking up residencies several of which I recall she introduced us to.
During those years she allowed her home to be the clubhouse and refuge for Jerry and Mary’s motley group of friends tolerating loud music, late night drinking, smoking and general miss behaviour.
Mind you she also had her moments, notably once after a few too many glasses she advised us to be careful with the opposite sex, stating it’s all very well for you, you just want it, I need it… (did I get this right?)
I must admit there were times when as a product of a dysfunctional divided home I found her a little intrusive... But now as a parent myself I can see that her attention came from a good place of love and caring, and that without her our lives would have been very different...
Ultimately a series of serendipitous connections which began with her introducing us to her friend’s son, drummer Dave Barbe, in turn his friend John Becket, I met their friend Mark Ryan, who then introduced me to my wife Carol, which is how I got my beautiful wife, house and children... and am still letting the days go by, once in a lifetime.... Thank You.
